The William Aiken House

The Venue Guide

A mansion turned venue for wedding ceremonies, receptions, and other indoor and outdoor events located in Charleston, SC

"Sweeping ballrooms, lush private grounds and open-air piazzas make this historic 1807 mansion one of Charleston’s most sought-after venues for weddings and once-in-a-lifetime occasions"

This is another venue that has "starred" in a movie, actually the same movie as Boone Hall Plantation! The Notebook. This one might be a little bit harder to recognize though. The scene where Allie reads the newspaper (with the article about Noah) and passes out during her wedding dress fitting? Yep. This is the venue!

This venue is very sophisticated and clean. Perfect for your intimate ceremony and reception, but still with plenty of room for a dance floor. I love this venue because not only do you have the grounds to take pictures at, but you are literally in the heart of Downtown Charleston and can step outside to take pictures there as well. This venue is the perfect spot to start your happily ever after!

THE PERFECT VENUE

It's the day of your wedding as you walk outside on the open balcony and see your beautiful ceremony site setup in the Charleston sun...

The Porches

Upstairs there is a giant porch where your guests can visit and roam freely. There's also plenty of rooms for you to have your reception or cocktail hour! There are so many options for this venue!

The Courtyard

The courtyard is where most couples have their wedding ceremony. You are surrounded by tall oak trees and beautiful iron gates so that the outside world can't see you, so it's private, but still in the heart of Downtown Charleston!

Should we both get ready at The William Aiken House?

FAQ

This is definitely a possibility! There's a room upstairs that is used as the bridal suite, and a room downstairs that is used for whatever needed. If you wanted a little more space and privacy though, I definitely recommend finding a little airbnb or hotel downtown for the guys!

A FEW OF the MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SHOOTING WEDDINGS AT The william aiken house

Where do you recommend taking our family portraits?

The best spot for family portraits is right in the courtyard! There's a lot of greenery and great lighting so it's perfect. And there's a lot of room so your family won't be standing around all squished together while waiting! Sometimes family can even snack or grab a drink right there while they're waiting for their time to shine!

What time should we schedule our ceremony to begin?

This all depends on if you are having a first look or not! If you have a first look, we are able to get lots of photos done beforehand, so you can have a later ceremony. But if you don't have a first look you definitely want to have plenty of time to take photos after the ceremony! So I always say if you have a first look, two hours before sunset. And no first look, 3 hours before sunset.

Is there parking available on site? Is it pay to park?

Because this venue is in Downtown Charleston your guests will have to park at a parking garage. But the great thing is there's a garage right across the street! They can pay for their spot and then walk a few feet right to the venue!
