Legare Waring

The Venue Guide

A beautiful setting covered with oak trees for wedding ceremonies, receptions, and other outdoor or tented events located in Charleston, SC

"This stately, circa 1840s house has hosted governors, international dignitaries and blushing brides alike. Adorned with quintessentially Charleston colors and furnishings, the grandeur of the Legare Waring House – with its avenue of majestic, moss-draped oak trees – is timeless"

THE PERFECT VENUE

It's the day of your wedding and sunlight is glowing while wind blows through the tall oak trees dripping with spanish moss...

Should we both get ready at Lowndes Grove?

FAQ

There is definitely plenty of room for the whole wedding party to get ready at Legare Waring House. Usually the girls can get ready upstairs, while the guys have their own "man cave" located to the side of the house. There are plenty of hotels and airbnbs in the area as well though if you want to have a separate place for the guys or just want to get ready off site!

A FEW OF the MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SHOOTING WEDDINGS AT lowndes grove plantation

Where do you recommend taking our family portraits?

The great thing about Legare Waring is how many backdrops there are. You can use the historic home, the avenue of oaks, or any location with greenery as your backdrop. I love the look of lush trees and spanish moss in family photos so I love to take family photos out on the main lawn with the oaks! But if you have a special place in mind I am always up for that!

What time should we schedule our ceremony to begin?

This all depends on if you are having a first look or not! If you have a first look, we are able to get lots of photos done beforehand, so you can have a later ceremony. But if you don't have a first look you definitely want to have plenty of time to take photos after the ceremony! So I always say if you have a first look, two hours before sunset. And no first look, 3 hours before sunset.

Do they allow for sparkler exits? Should we do one?

Venues are constantly updating their rules and regulations, so that is something I would ask them at the time you book! I encourage you to think outside the box! A great idea is to have flower petals thrown as you make your way back down the aisle as husband and wife. Or if you do want the exit at the end of the night, some other good ideas are glowsticks, bubbles, streamers, or pom poms. Make it special to you!
